After you meet and greet our Professional Licensed Tour Guide at the port of Katakolon you will head to Olympia which is about 30′ from the port.
When you arrive at Olympia your first visit will be the birthplace of the First Olympic Games in ancient times. Your Professional Tour Guide will take you to the temple of Hera and Zeus where the games began with a festival to honor the father of the gods. You will have the chance to take pictures of the area where the ceremony of the Olympic flame is lit before sent to other countries during the Olympic Games. The highlight of the site is the ancient Olympic stadium that was found exactly as it was in ancient times where young people competed in antiquity for glory and fame.
Your Olympia Half Day Tour will continue to the archaeological museum where some of the most important Greek antiquities are on display. The ” Hermes of Praxitelis ” statue and the relief of the the temple of Zeus are some of the masterpieces of the museum.
Time permitted you will walk to the Olympia village where you may purchase some local souvenirs.
